A RESOLUTION honoring the Delta Epsilon chapter of the Delta Tau Delta 1
fraternity on the historic milestone of its 100th anniversary at the University of Kentucky. 2
WHEREAS, founded in 1858 at Bethany College, in Bethany, West Virginia, the 3
Delta Tau Delta fraternity has 137 chapters and colonies in 39 states and the District of 4
Columbia. Delta Tau Delta is committed to develop its members' leadership skills, 5
academic achievement, community service and to help launch successful careers; and 6
WHEREAS, local fraternity members and alumni of Tau Delta Alpha were installed 7
as the charter members of the Delta Epsilon chapter of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity on 8
May 10, 1924, at the University of Kentucky; and 9
WHEREAS, Delta Tau Delta has upheld its charter at the University of Kentucky 10
for 100 years, only entering a brief period of inactive status during World War II, when 11
most of their fraternity brothers entered military service. Answering the call to service for 12
their nation, seven active and alumni members were killed in action during World War II; 13
and 14
WHEREAS, the Delta Epsilon chapter at University of Kentucky is a leader within 15
the national Delta Tau Delta organization. The Delta Epsilon chapter has received the 16
Hugh Shield Award for Chapter Excellence seven times. The Hugh Shield Award is 17
presented to the top 10 chapters in recognition of overall excellence in chapter finance, 18
recruitment, membership education, academics, alumni relations, and community service; 19
and 20
WHEREAS, at the University of Kentucky, Delta Tau Delta has been recognized as 21
a top fraternity on campus. It's excellence on campus can be substantiated by members 22
filling ranks of student organizations, honorary societies, student government, the student 23
newspaper, and the Interfraternity Council. The Delta Tau Delta brothers actively 24
participate and succeed in intramural athletics, the All-Campus and Greek Sing 25
competitions, and many other campus events; and 26

be demonstrated by the honorable list of alumni who have shaped the history of 1
Kentucky, including: former United States Congressmen Ed Whitfield and Harley Rouda; 2
former United States Congressman and Governor Ernie Fletcher; former Governor Steve 3
Beshear; former Chief Justice of the Commonwealth Robert F. Stephens; former State 4
Auditor Adam Edelen; former State Treasurer Todd Hollenbach; and numerous state and 5
local leaders; and 6
WHEREAS, the Delta Epsilon chapter of Delta Tau Delta remains committed to its 7
century-long pledge to the fundamental principles of truth, courage, faith, and power and 8
to carry these principles forward with integrity, strength, and steadfast hope for future 9
generations; 10
NOW, THEREFORE, 11
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 12
Kentucky: 13
Section 1. The members of the Senate do hereby recognize and celebrate May 14
10, 2024, as the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Delta Epsilon chapter of the 15
Delta Tau Delta fraternity at the University of Kentucky. 16
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 17
Resolution to Senator Amanda Mays Bledsoe for delivery to the members of the Delta 18
Tau Delta fraternity. 19
