WHEREAS, Pete Fraley, a graduate of Boyd County High School, played on the 3
Lions squad that won the 16th Region title in 1984; and 4
WHEREAS, Pete Fraley returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach for the 5
boys' basketball team before taking over as head coach of the Boyd County girls' team in 6
1996; and 7
WHEREAS, Pete Fraley's tenure got off to a rocky start, losing his first 11 games as 8
he tried to adapt his coaching style to coach girls, when he got the best advice he ever 9
received from a fellow coach, "Just coach basketball. Don't coach girls. Everything will 10
be alright." From there, the team turned around and reached the regional semifinals at the 11
end of that first year; and 12
WHEREAS, after that season, the wins and championships continued for the Boyd 13
County girls for 27 more years as the team won 560 games and six 16th Region 14
championships; and 15
WHEREAS, Pete Fraley recently announced his retirement after this amazing 28-16
year career; he will retire as the all-time wins leader in the 16th Region; and 17
WHEREAS, reflecting on his career, Pete Fraley eloquently summed up his 18
thoughts on his coaching career when he said, "One of the main reasons I love coaching 19
is I love to compete. It allows me to be part of a team. I will miss the camaraderie with 20
the players and the coaches. I was blessed with great players and coaches along the way. I 21
was just fortunate enough to be the head coach."; and 22
WHEREAS, the career of Pete Fraley shows the effect that the right coach, in the 23
right place, can have on a community, a school, and generations of young student-24
athletes, and is certainly worthy of public recognition; 25
NOW, THEREFORE, 26
