A RESOLUTION recognizing April 2024 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in 1
Kentucky. 2
WHEREAS, preventing child abuse means strengthening families so that children 3
can thrive; and 4
WHEREAS, Kentucky's children deserve to grow up in a safe, nurturing 5
environment free from fear, abuse, and neglect; and 6
WHEREAS, the mission of Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, in collaboration with 7
its partners, is to prevent the abuse and neglect of Kentucky's children through advocacy, 8
awareness, education, and training; and 9
WHEREAS, there are more than 320 Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky partners 10
throughout the Commonwealth, with at least one partner in each of Kentucky's 120 11
counties; and 12
WHEREAS, April has been declared Child Abuse Prevention Month by 13
presidential and gubernatorial proclamation; and 14
WHEREAS, to ensure our children and families are supported and our communities 15
thrive, we must demonstrate our commitment to spreading awareness of child abuse 16
prevention within our own spheres of influence; and 17
WHEREAS, Wear Blue Day for child abuse prevention will be observed on April 18
5, 2024; and 19
WHEREAS, each member of the General Assembly is encouraged to wear blue on 20
the last day of the 2024 Regular Session to symbolize the importance of the role we all 21
play in the prevention of child abuse and neglect; and 22
WHEREAS, the blue and silver pinwheel is the national symbol for child abuse 23
prevention; and 24
WHEREAS, there will be more than 4,000 blue and silver pinwheels planted on the 25
grounds of the Kentucky State Capitol on March 28, 2024 to represent abused and 26
neglected children of the Commonwealth and recognize April 2024 as Child Abuse 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 2484

NOW, THEREFORE, 2
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 3
Kentucky: 4
Section 1. The Senate of the Commonwealth of Kentucky does hereby 5
recognize April 2024 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Kentucky to promote 6
increased awareness of child abuse prevention in Kentucky. 7
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 8
Resolution to Senator Whitney Westerfield. 9
