A RESOLUTION honoring Edsel Welch on the occasion of his 100th birthday. 1
WHEREAS, Edsel Welch, a native son of the Commonwealth and resident of 2
McKee, Kentucky, will celebrate his 100th birthday on April 14, 2024; and 3
WHEREAS, Edsel Welch left school after the eighth grade to help his family on 4
their farm, and went on to serve his country with great valor as a member of the United 5
States Army in World War II, returning safely home in 1946; and 6
WHEREAS, Edsel Welch is happily married to his wife of 78 years, Mae Cox 7
Welch, and lives with her in the home he built in 1969; and 8
WHEREAS, Edsel and Mae Welch raised nine daughters and are also blessed with 9
21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and 10
WHEREAS, Edsel Welch is a former employee of the Peoples Rural Telephone 11
Cooperative who retired after many years of dedicated service; and 12
WHEREAS, Edsel Welch is a longtime tobacco farmer who also raised a garden 13
and livestock to feed his family; and 14
WHEREAS, Edsel Welch is a faithful member of Macedonia Holiness Church, 15
where he has served as a deacon, and is also an active member of the local Disabled 16
American Veterans chapter; and 17
WHEREAS, Edsel Welch is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting for rabbits 18
and squirrels, fishing, camping, and traveling with his family; and 19
WHEREAS, in 2012, Edsel Welch took part in an Honor Flight for veterans of 20
World War II, visiting the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C., with other veterans and 21
various state leaders; and 22
WHEREAS, Edsel Welch says his greatest accomplishments in life are his children 23
and his service to God and his country; 24
NOW, THEREFORE, 25
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 26

Section 1. The Senate does hereby celebrate and honor Edsel Welch on the 1
occasion of his 100th birthday. 2
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in celebration of Edsel 3
Welch. 4
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this 5
Resolution to the office of Senator Robert Stivers for delivery. 6
