UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 389 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 9/12/2023 2:21 PM Jacketed A RESOLUTION honoring the life and accomplishments of former Kentucky State 1 Representative Royce William Adams. 2 WHEREAS, Royce William Adams was born on September 29, 1938, in Mason, 3 Kentucky to the late Willie and Irene Adams; and 4 WHEREAS, Royce Adams graduated from Grant County High School in 1956 and 5 married his beloved wife, Rita, on June 12, 1959; and 6 WHEREAS, Royce Adams was a dedicated church member who served in many 7 positions, including deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, and Sunday school 8 superintendent; and 9 WHEREAS, Royce Adams began his career in agriculture and small business and 10 later joined the United States Army where he served for five years and achieved the rank 11 of Staff Sergeant; and 12 WHEREAS, the passion for community service Royce Adams had led him to take 13 on leadership positions with Gideons International, the American Morgan Horse 14 Association, the Grant County Chamber of Commerce, the Grant County Farm Bureau, 15 the Kentucky Association of Fairs and Horse Shows, the Grant Lodge #85 F&AM, and 16 the Grant County Fair Board, where he served as President for 20 years; and 17 WHEREAS, Royce Adams' commitment to community service led him to 18 successfully run for a seat in the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1992. He served 19 in the House with honor and distinction for two decades, working diligently to serve the 20 citizens of the 61st District; and 21 WHEREAS, during Royce Adams' tenure as the Representative of the 61st district 22 he earned the reputation as one of the most widely respected members of the General 23 Assembly. His proudest legislative moment was the 1998 passage of House Bill 1 which 24 made it illegal to drive a boat under the influence of alcohol; and 25 WHEREAS, despite all his many accomplishments and achievements, Royce 26 Adams loved his family and being a father, grandfather, and great grandfather above all 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 389 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 9/12/2023 2:21 PM Jacketed else; and 1 WHEREAS, Royce Adams and his family were accomplished horsemen. Along 2 with his wife and daughters, he raised and showed Morgan horses, winning many state 3 and national awards; and 4 WHEREAS, Royce Adams is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rita Adams; his 5 daughters, Carmen Hickerson and Melinda (Greg) Lloyd; his grandchildren, Noah 6 Hickerson, Taylor (Clay) Sullivan, and Ben Lloyd; and his great-grandchildren, Sloane 7 and Darcy Sullivan; 8 NOW, THEREFORE, 9 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 10 Kentucky: 11 Section 1. The members of the Senate do hereby honor the life of former State 12 Representative Royce William Adams and posthumously recognize him for his many 13 accomplishments and dedication to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 14 Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 15 Resolution to Senator Gerald Neal. 16
