A RESOLUTION recognizing the historic and economic significance of the Capital 1
Plaza Hotel. 2
WHEREAS, constructed in 1984, the Capital Plaza Hotel is located in downtown 3
Frankfort at 405 Wilkinson Boulevard; and 4
WHEREAS, as demonstrated by the competitive pledge of land, glass, gold, and 5
nails to build a meeting house, the city of Frankfort was chosen as the Capital of 6
Kentucky in 1792, exhibiting perseverance, investment, and cooperation; and 7
WHEREAS, the spirit of historic cooperation between the capital city of Frankfort 8
and the Commonwealth of Kentucky continued in a collaborative agreement between the 9
city, state, and the future Governor Wallace Wilkinson, to construct the Capital Plaza 10
Hotel which provided benefits to all parties including the city, surrounding community, 11
and state; and 12
WHEREAS, the Capital Plaza Hotel represents the culmination and last remaining 13
vestige of urban renewal in downtown Frankfort; and 14
WHEREAS, the Capital Plaza Hotel was the location of an FBI sting operation that 15
resulted in groundbreaking legislation, which changed the way politics worked in 16
Kentucky and created some of the strongest legislative and executive branch ethics laws 17
in the nation; and 18
WHEREAS, the Capital Plaza Hotel represents the Commonwealth of Kentucky's 19
investment in the economic growth of Frankfort through development of the local 20
hospitality industry and tourism; and 21
WHEREAS, the preservation and recognition of the historic significance of the 22
Capital Plaza Hotel will continue to spur economic development in the Frankfort 23
community and the wider Commonwealth of Kentucky; 24
NOW, THEREFORE, 25
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 26

Section 1. The Senate recognizes the Capital Plaza Hotel as a historic resource 1
with significance at the local and state level. 2
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 3
Resolution to Senator Gex Williams for delivery. 4
