A RESOLUTION honoring Senator Denise Harper Angel upon her retirement from 1 
the General Assembly. 2 
WHEREAS, Senator Denise Harper Angel was sworn into office in January 2005, 3 
and has dutifully served Kentucky's 35th Senate District, which encompasses parts of 4 
Jefferson County; and 5 
WHEREAS, a resident of Louisville, Senator Harper Angel was a proud graduate of 6 
Southern High School; and 7 
WHEREAS, a civic-minded individual and dutiful public servant for 49 years, 8 
Senator Harper Angel served as a member of the Metropolitan Louisville Women's 9 
Political Caucus, Jefferson County Democratic Executive Committee, Business and 10 
Professional Women/River City and was a delegate to the Democratic National 11 
Convention in 1992; and 12 
WHEREAS, prior to her tenure in the Kentucky Senate, Denise Harper Angel 13 
served as Jefferson County Property Valuation Administrator (PVA) from 1990 to 2004, 14 
having been the first woman to be elected to that office. During her time as PVA, Denise 15 
Harper Angel was member and president of the Kentucky PVA Association, and was 16 
named Outstanding PVA of the Year in 1996; and 17 
WHEREAS, during her decorated tenure as a member of the Senate, Senator Harper 18 
Angel served as a devoted advocate for victims, seniors, and the Commonwealth's most 19 
vulnerable. She has filed legislation to direct the Cabinet for Health and Family Services 20 
to study and report on the needs and services available for older caregivers who care for 21 
persons with mental disabilities; to require Kentucky farmers to provide fresh produce to 22 
low-income seniors and SNAP recipients; to require search and rescue teams searching 23 
for individuals with Alzheimer's or other brain disorders to alert local media outlets; and 24 
to require an audit and time testing of untested rape kits and rape kit tracking systems; 25 
and 26 
WHEREAS, Senator Denise Harper Angel served as a member of several 27  UNOFFICIAL COPY  	24 RS BR 1321

committees during her time in the Senate, including the Economic Development, 1 
Tourism, and Labor Committee, Licensing and Occupations Committee, Veterans, 2 
Military Affairs and Public Protection Committee, Families and Children Committee, and 3 
State & Local Government Committee; and 4 
WHEREAS, Senator Denise Harper Angel, is rightfully honored on this day for her 5 
years of service to the Commonwealth as a member of the Kentucky Senate. The 6 
members of the Senate hereby commend Senator Harper Angel for her many 7 
achievements and wish to extend sincere well wishes as she enjoys her retirement to 8 
spend more time with her family and travel; 9 
NOW, THEREFORE, 10 
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 11 
Kentucky: 12 
Section 1.   The members of the Senate hereby salute Senator Denise Harper 13 
Angel and express their sincere appreciation for her service to her community, the 14 
Senate, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky upon her retirement. 15 
Section 2.  When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of the 16 
extraordinary service of Senator Denise Harper Angel. 17 
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 18 
Resolution to Senator Damon Thayer for delivery to Denise Harper Angel. 19
