Preston Farmer was born in Hyden, Kentucky, on May 20, 1933, to 2 Rex and Virgie Farmer, where he grew up with his two younger sisters, Martha Lou and 3 Pat; and 4 WHEREAS, Preston Farmer's life was marked by a series of remarkable 5 achievements and contributions. Beginning his lifelong journey of learning, he attended 6 Columbia Military Academy where he honed skills such as discipline, leadership, and a 7 strong sense of duty; and 8 WHEREAS, Preston Farmer continued his education by attending Centre College 9 where he graduated with distinction. He then attended the University of Kentucky 10 College of Law, where he cultivated his passion for the legal profession; and 11 WHEREAS, amid his academic career, Preston Farmer embarked on a new 12 adventure by serving his country in the Army. He was stationed in Carmel, California, 13 and later in Bordeaux, France. During his military service, he exhibited unwavering 14 dedication; and 15 WHEREAS, in his legal career, Preston Farmer made significant contributions to 16 the legal community by specializing in insurance defense and representing numerous 17 prominent insurance companies. He also served as an Assistant Attorney General before 18 being appointed as an Assistant United States Attorney; and 19 WHEREAS, Preston Farmer's legal prowess earned him recognition as one of 20 Kentucky's top-rated lawyers, and his commitment to the legal field was further 21 demonstrated through his active involvement with the Kentucky Bar Association Board 22 of Governors; and 23 WHEREAS, an awarding aspect of Preston Farmer's legal career was the privilege 24 of practicing law alongside his children, Michael Farmer and Suzanne Farmer, and 25 together they upheld a tradition of legal excellence; and 26 WHEREAS, beyond his legal career, Preston Farmer served as the chairman of the 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 1459 Page 2 of 3 XXXX 1/8/2024 2:52 PM Jacketed board for Bank of Columbia, where his wisdom and expertise helped guide the bank to 1 success; and 2 WHEREAS, Preston Farmer's commitment to his community extended beyond his 3 legal and business endeavors, which is shown through the creation of the Network of 4 Volunteer Professionals in London, Kentucky; and 5 WHEREAS, Preston Farmer's strong work ethic was a defining trait through his 6 life, as he approached every task with dedication and diligence, setting an example for all 7 who knew him; and 8 WHEREAS, Preston Farmer was also known and loved by his family. He had a 9 special bond with his son, daughter, and grandchildren, creating cherished traditions with 10 each of them. Together, they enjoyed annual vacations to Hilton Head Island and Fort 11 Myers Beach that resulted in cherished memories. These included trips for doughnuts, 12 fireworks, and bonfires to celebrate New Year's Day. Each vacation morning, you could 13 find Preston and his grandchildren in front of the television, watching their favorite 14 cartoons, sharing laughter, and savoring those precious moments together; and 15 WHEREAS, Preston Farmer shared his love of sports with his grandchildren, taking 16 them to University of Kentucky basketball and football games. He instilled in them a 17 passion for the Wildcats and created lasting bonds through their shared excitement of 18 cheering on the team; and 19 WHEREAS, Preston Farmer also enjoyed spending time at home with his wife, 20 Elizabeth, and dogs, Teddy and Farrah; and 21 WHEREAS, Preston Farmer was known for his selflessness and boundless 22 generosity, touching the lives of many throughout his life. He was always willing to 23 extend a helping hand or lend a listening ear to those in need. Friends and family alike 24 knew they could rely on his support and wise counsel; and 25 WHEREAS, Preston was a devoted family man, and his loyalty to his loved ones 26 was unwavering and evident in every facet of his life; and 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 1459 Page 3 of 3 XXXX 1/8/2024 2:52 PM Jacketed WHEREAS, Preston Farmer passed away peacefully on December 31, 2023, 1 surrounded by his loved ones; and 2 WHEREAS, Preston Farmer was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Virgie 3 Farmer; his son, Michael Preston Farmer; and his son-in-law, John Clarke; and 4 WHEREAS, Preston Farmer is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Reese Farmer, and 5 her son, Jackson Reese Faust. He is also survived by his daughter, Suzanne Farmer; his 6 grandchildren, Preslee Farmer Hart, Rex Butler Farmer, Hannah Jane Clarke, and Jack 7 Clarke; and his sisters, Patricia Farmer Huff and Martha Farmer Copeland; and 8 WHEREAS, Preston Farmer's contributions to his community and this 9 Commonwealth leave both a legacy and a void with his passing; 10 NOW, THEREFORE, 11 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 12 Kentucky: 13 Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby express their most profound 14 sympathy upon the passing of F. Preston Farmer and honor him for his many 15 accomplishments. 16 Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 17 Resolution to Senator Brandon J. Storm for delivery to the family. 18
