UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 1528 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 1/10/2024 9:18 AM Jacketed A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Leon 1 Gooch. 2 WHEREAS, Leon was a proud native of Lincoln County, Kentucky, where he was 3 born on July 30, 1934, to the late Samuel and Ethen Goode Gooch; and 4 WHEREAS, Leon was a pillar in the Danville/Boyle County community for many 5 years, always with a smile and grateful personality. He retired from First Christian 6 Church, a job he held for 39 years. He was also a custodian at Danville High School for 7 17 years, and he previously worked for Preston Pruitt Funeral Home, Stuart Powell Ford, 8 and Kentucky State Hospital; and 9 WHEREAS, Leon loved being involved in many activities and organizations, and 10 he was rewarded and honored for his service on many occasions. In 1983, the captain of 11 the USS Luce allowed him to steer the ship, one of the last civilians given this honor. In 12 2019, Leon received the Community Service Award at the Soul of 2nd Street Festival in 13 Danville; and 14 WHEREAS, Leon was also an Honorary Kentucky Colonel and an active member 15 in the Loyal Benevolent Society No. 3 of East Burgin Kentucky; and 16 WHEREAS, Leon had a deep connection with the lord, which he demonstrated at 17 Jacobs Chapel Methodist Church, Turnersville Baptist Church, and Little Zion Baptist 18 Church; and 19 WHEREAS, Leon is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gladys "Mama" 20 Bowman Gooch; children, Steve "Tony" Bowman, Richard Gooch, Keith Gooch, and 21 Henrietta "Penny" Short; six grandchildren, Bridget Brown, LaChrista Ellis, Christopher 22 Simpson, Keith Gooch II, Bridget Gooch, Rebecca Moore; eight great-grandchildren, 23 Wynema, Ellis, Whitley, Khalil, Sydney, Aaliyah, King, and Dallas; and a host of nieces, 24 nephews, family and friends; 25 NOW, THEREFORE, 26 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 1528 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 1/10/2024 9:18 AM Jacketed Kentucky: 1 Section 1. The Members of the Senate, individually and collectively, hereby 2 express their most profound sympathy upon the passing of Leon Gooch, and 3 posthumously thank him for his many contributions to First Christian Church, Danville 4 High School, and the community of Danville/Boyle County. 5 Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 6 memory of Leon Gooch. 7 Section 3.
