A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in recognition and celebration of Dr. 1
Hershael W. York upon the occasion of his retirement as Senior Pastor of Buck Run 2
Baptist Church in Frankfort, Kentucky. 3
WHEREAS, Dr. York began serving Buck Run Baptist Church in 2003, leading the 4
200 year old church in growth that necessitated relocation to a 100-acre campus and new 5
facilities; and 6
WHEREAS, Dr. York previously pastored the First Baptist Church in Marion, 7
Arkansas, and the Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky; and 8
WHEREAS, Dr. York frequently ministers internationally, especially in Brazil, 9
where his father was a missionary; and 10
WHEREAS, Dr. York joined the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary 25 years 11
ago. He has authored two books on speaking and preaching and has written dozens of 12
articles in journals and online publications; and 13
WHEREAS, Dr. York's sermons have been featured in Preaching Today as among 14
the best in North America and he has twice preached at the International Congress on 15
Preaching in Cambridge, England; and 16
WHEREAS, Dr. York has served as the eleventh Dean of the School of Theology at 17
the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary since 2018 and as the Victor and Louise 18
Lester Professor of Christian Preaching since 1999; and 19
WHEREAS, Dr. York and his wife, Tanya, have raised two sons, and will continue 20
to raise churches as they also enjoy this new stage of life's journey; 21
NOW, THEREFORE, 22
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 23
Kentucky: 24
Section 1. The Senate hereby expresses its congratulations to Dr. Hershael W. 25
York upon his retirement as Senior Pastor of the Buck Run Baptist Church in Frankfort, 26

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in recognition and 1
celebration of Dr. York's service to the Commonwealth and beyond. 2

Resolution to Senator Whitney Westerfield for delivery. 4
