UNOFFICIAL COPY 25 RS BR 1884 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 2/18/2025 8:53 PM Jacketed A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Mae Street Kidd Memorial Highway in 1 Jefferson County. 2 WHEREAS, Minnie Mae Jones, better known as Mae Street Kidd, was born on 3 February 8, 1904, in Millersburg, Kentucky; and 4 WHEREAS, Mae Street Kidd grew up attending segregated schools into her high 5 school years, and attended the Lincoln Institute, a black boarding academy near 6 Shelbyville, Kentucky, to continue her education; and 7 WHEREAS, Mae Street Kidd began a career as a business woman working for 8 Mammoth Life and Accident Insurance Company in Louisville, Kentucky; and 9 WHEREAS, Mae Street Kidd met her first husband, Horace Leon Street, in 10 Louisville and they were married for 12 years, until his untimely death in 1942; and 11 WHEREAS, Mae Street Kidd served with the Red Cross in England during World 12 War II, and this is also where she met her second husband, James Meredith Kidd III; and 13 WHEREAS, Mae Street Kidd was elected to represent Louisville's District 41 in 14 Kentucky's House of Representatives in 1968, and she remained in the position until 15 1984; and 16 WHEREAS, Mae Street Kidd sponsored Kentucky's ratification of the Thirteenth, 17 Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution in 1976; and 18 WHEREAS, Mae Street Kidd was instrumental in sponsoring the bill that created 19 the Kentucky Housing Corporation in 1972 that provides open and low-income housing; 20 and 21 WHEREAS, Mae Street Kidd passed away on October 20, 1999, and her legacy and 22 career in the Kentucky General Assembly is deserving of tangible representation; 23 NOW, THEREFORE, 24 Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 25 ď˘Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate the portion of Kentucky 26 Route 150 in Jefferson County (from mile point 1 to mile point 3), as the "Mae Street 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 25 RS BR 1884 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 2/18/2025 8:53 PM Jacketed Kidd Memorial Highway" and shall, within 30 days of the effective date of this 1 Resolution, erect appropriate signage denoting this designation. 2
