A RESOLUTION honoring Kenny McPeek for becoming the first trainer to win the 1 
Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby in the same year since 1952. 2 
WHEREAS, Kenny McPeek, a Lexington, Kentucky, native, became interested in 3 
horse racing at an early age because his father owned several Thoroughbreds; and 4 
WHEREAS, after graduating from the University of Kentucky, Kenny McPeek 5 
obtained his trainer's license and saddled his first winner, Final Destroyer, at River 6 
Downs in 1985; and 7 
WHEREAS, Kenny McPeek is among the top Thoroughbred trainers in the world 8 
and respected as one of the top bloodstock agents for finding talent in the United States, 9 
Europe, and South America; and 10 
WHEREAS, Kenny McPeek trained the winning Thoroughbreds of both the 11 
Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby in 2024, a feat that has only happened four times in 12 
the history of those races and not since 1952; and 13 
WHEREAS, Mystik Dan's victory in the 2024 Kentucky Derby, the 150th Run for 14 
the Roses, paired with Thorpedo Anna's victory in the Kentucky Oaks, solidified Kenny 15 
McPeek's place in Thoroughbred training history; 16 
NOW, THEREFORE, 17 
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 18 
Kentucky: 19 
Section 1. The Senate hereby honors Kenny McPeek for becoming the first 20 
trainer to win the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby in the same year since 1952. 21 
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and 22 
recognition of Kenny McPeek's achievements and contributions to the horse racing 23 
industry, and to his fellow Kentuckians. 24 
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 25 
Resolution to Senator Reginald Thomas for presentation to Kenny McPeek. 26
