A RESOLUTION recognizing the 25th anniversary of the Somernites Cruise. 1
WHEREAS, Somernites Cruise is a car show held on the fourth Saturday of the 2
month from April through October that delivers an exciting, family-oriented atmosphere 3
in an entirely original setting in Somerset, Kentucky; and 4
WHEREAS, on March 25, 2010, the General Assembly designated Somerset as the 5
official Car Cruise Capital of Kentucky; and 6
WHEREAS, since 2001, Somernites Cruise has hosted 165 events, with 151,935 7
vehicles, and over 1,000,000 attendees; and 8
WHEREAS, Somernites Cruise participants have traveled to Somerset from five 9
countries and 49 states. Each month, attendees come from around 14 different states; and 10
WHEREAS, the August 2022 Somernites Cruise event was the largest show when 11
the organizers attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the longest Ford parade 12
with 2,086 show vehicles; and 13
WHEREAS, historic vehicles from blockbuster movies, including the Batmobile, 14
the DeLorean from Back to the Future, and the Mustang in Steve McQueen's Bullitt, have 15
participated in the Somernites Cruise events; and 16
WHEREAS, the Somernites Cruise organizers have created separate events, 17
including Campin' the Cumberland, Somernites Covered Bridges of Kentucky Cruise, 18
and Somernites Jeep & 4x4 Nationals; and 19
WHEREAS, Somernites Cruise's economic impact on the Somerset community is 20
between $12 and $15 million each year, totaling over a quarter of a billion dollars since 21
2001; 22

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 24
Kentucky: 25
Section 1. The Senate does hereby recognize the 25th anniversary of the 26
