Clark Jr. was born on October 3, 1928, to Robert and Julia 3 Anne Clark of Ebenezer, Mississippi; and 4 WHEREAS, Robert G. Clark Jr. was a member of the Mississippi House of 5 Representatives for 35 years, serving Mississippi's 47th District; and 6 WHEREAS, Robert G. Clark Jr. made history in 1967 by becoming the first 7 African American elected to the Mississippi Legislature since Reconstruction, an 8 achievement that paved the way for greater representation and progress in the state’s 9 governance; and 10 WHEREAS, throughout his life, Robert G. Clark Jr. exemplified unwavering 11 dedication to the principles of justice, equality, and public service; and 12 WHEREAS, Robert G. Clark Jr. championed education reform, economic 13 development, and civil rights, always advocating for the betterment of his constituents 14 and the people of Mississippi; and 15 WHEREAS, Robert G. Clark Jr. served in the Mississippi legislature until 2003, a 16 tenure in public service that included serving as chair of the education committee and 17 later as speaker pro tempore, marking him as a pioneering leader who helped shape the 18 legislative landscape of Mississippi; and 19 WHEREAS, Robert G. Clark Jr. leaves behind a lasting legacy of courage, 20 perseverance, and leadership that transcends state lines, inspiring all those who strive for 21 justice and equality; and 22 WHEREAS, Robert G. Clark Jr. was laid to rest on March 11, 2025, in the presence 23 of family and friends; and 24 WHEREAS, Robert G. Clark Jr. was preceded in death by his first wife, Essie, in 25 1978. The Senate does hereby express its most profound sympathy upon 4 the passing of former Mississippi State Representative Robert G. Clark Jr. 5 Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 6 memory of former Mississippi State Representative Robert G. Clark Jr. 7 Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 8 Resolution to Senator Brandon Storm for delivery. 9
