UNOFFICIAL COPY 25 RS BR 1635 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 2/11/2025 9:06 AM Jacketed A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Larry 1 "Smokey" Dodson. 2 WHEREAS, Larry "Smokey" Dodson was born on January 17, 1948, in Louisville, 3 Kentucky; and 4 WHEREAS, Larry Dodson was a man of service who was passionate about doing 5 what was best for students. He did so by serving on the Oldham County School Board for 6 18 years; and 7 WHEREAS, during his time on the school board, Larry Dodson represented the 8 board as part of the Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA) and served as regional 9 director on the board of directors of the KSBA, participating in both state and national 10 school board association meetings; and 11 WHEREAS, Larry Dodson also served on the Local School Board Members 12 Advisory Committee, lending his experience to help shape education policy across the 13 state; and 14 WHEREAS, Larry Dodson was a dedicated advocate for the Oldham County 15 Schools Arts Center. He was a founding member of the Arts Center Foundation, Inc., 16 helping to raise funding for the program. His dedication to the arts program that served 17 students and families throughout the surrounding area was evident as he attended every 18 performance, often multiple times; and 19 WHEREAS, Larry Dodson worked for Louisville Gas & Electric for 58 years and 20 was planning for retirement as a senior gas safety and technical training consultant; and 21 WHEREAS, Larry Dodson was a member of the Buechel Masonic Lodge #896 and 22 a Kentucky Colonel; and 23 WHEREAS, Larry Dodson loved baseball and used his talent to help others by 24 coaching for the North Oldham Little League and served on their board. Larry was a 25 restaurant aficionado and a member of La Grange Baptist Church; and 26 WHEREAS, Larry Dodson departed this earthly life at the age of 77 on January 24, 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 25 RS BR 1635 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 2/11/2025 9:06 AM Jacketed 2025; and 1 WHEREAS, Larry Dodson was preceded in death by his son, Derrick Dodson; 2 mother, Mary Workman; and brothers, Jerry and Gary Dodson; and 3 WHEREAS, Larry Dodson is survived by his wife, Patti Dodson; son, Jeremy 4 Dodson; daughter, Shannon (Pete) Dahl; and five grandchildren; and 5 WHEREAS, Larry Dodson leaves behind a tremendous void in the Oldham County 6 school system, but also leaves behind a great example of service for all who knew him 7 and his legacy will live on for many generations; 8 NOW, THEREFORE, 9 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 10 Kentucky: 11 Section 1. The Senate hereby expresses its most profound sympathy upon the 12 passing of Larry "Smokey" Dodson. 13 Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 14 memory of Larry "Smokey" Dodson. 15 Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 16 Resolution to Senator Lindsey Tichenor for delivery to the family. 17
