A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Kayi 1 
Lewis. 2 
WHEREAS, Kayi Lewis entered this world on December 10, 1949, in Ashland, 3 
Kentucky to the late Herbert and Florence Gambill; and 4 
WHEREAS, a devout Christian, Kayi Lewis practiced her faith as a member of 5 
Youngers Creek Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, Kentucky; and 6 
WHEREAS, Kayi Lewis formerly served as the president of the Hardin County 7 
Republican Women's Club and as a member of the Congressional Women's Club to 8 
champion causes and initiatives she felt would make the Commonwealth a better place to 9 
live, work, and raise a family; and 10 
WHEREAS, Kayi Lewis's will to live and determination to fight was put on display 11 
when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017. After removing her pancreas, 12 
surgeons informed her that she was in what they call the "less-than-one-percent elite 13 
club," as she was in the top 99.9th percentile as far her response to the treatment; and 14 
WHEREAS, Kayi Lewis's renewed lease on life allowed her the opportunity to 15 
keep making the orange juice cakes she loved so much, and to make people of all 16 
backgrounds and walks of life feel welcomed and loved; and 17 
WHEREAS, Kayi Lewis departed this earthly life on February 4, 2025, at the age 18 
of 75, in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her family; and 19 
WHEREAS, Kayi Lewis is preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Bill 20 
and Roger Gambill. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ron Lewis; two children, 21 
Brent (Amanda) Lewis and Allison (Tyler) Coffey; one sister, Faye Crooks; five 22 
grandchildren, Kinsley Grace Coffey, Hope Lewis, Faith Cates, Grace Cates, and Wilson 23 
Bernhard; and several nieces and a nephew; 24 
NOW, THEREFORE, 25 
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 26

Section 1.   The Senate expresses its most profound sympathy upon the passing 1 
of Kayi Lewis and extends heartfelt condolences to all her family and friends. 2 
Section 2.   When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 3 
memory of Kayi Lewis. 4 
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 5 
Resolution to Senator Matthew Deneen for delivery to the family. 6
