A RESOLUTION recognizing February 26, 2025, as Certified Registered Nurse 1
Anesthetists Day in Kentucky. 2
WHEREAS, certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) are advanced practice 3
registered nurses who are among the most trusted healthcare professionals and who have 4
been providing anesthesia care to patients in the United States for more than 150 years; 5
and 6
WHEREAS, legislation passed by the United States Congress in 1986 made nurse 7
anesthetists the first nursing specialty to be accorded direct reimbursement rights by 8
Medicare; and 9
WHEREAS, CRNAs are the primary anesthesia providers in rural communities, 10
continue to be the primary providers of anesthesia care to United States military 11
personnel, and comprise two-thirds of the anesthesia providers in the Commonwealth; 12
and 13
WHEREAS, CRNAs are the sole providers of anesthesia services in nearly half of 14
the counties in Kentucky; and 15
WHEREAS, CRNAs practice in every setting in which anesthesia is delivered, 16
including traditional hospital surgical suites, obstetrical delivery rooms, critical access 17
hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and the offices of dentists, podiatrists, 18
ophthalmologists, and pain management specialists; and 19
WHEREAS, CRNAs are qualified to make independent judgments regarding all 20
aspects of anesthesia care based on their education, training, and licensure; and 21
WHEREAS, CRNAs are trusted anesthesia experts who deliver specialized, cost-22
effective care to all patients, for every type of procedure, and in all types of facilities; and 23
WHEREAS, CRNAs have courageously served all Kentuckians in need by utilizing 24
their advanced skills in airway management, intubation, and ventilator management 25
during healthcare crises; and 26
WHEREAS, CRNAs are there to deliver safe and compassionate high-quality 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 25 RS BR 1986

anesthesia care to all Kentuckians, especially those in rural and underserved 1
communities; 2
NOW, THEREFORE, 3
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 4
Kentucky: 5
Section 1. The members of the Senate do hereby recognize February 26, 2025, 6
as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists Day in Kentucky. 7
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor, recognition, 8
and celebration of Kentucky's certified registered nurse anesthetists and the service and 9
high-quality care that they provide to Kentuckians. 10
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 11
Resolution to Senator Robin Webb for delivery. 12
