Authorizes the Bossier and Caddo parish school boards, in accordance with specified guidelines and limitations, to transport to school any student who resides one mile or less from the school (EN INCREASE LF EX See Note)
Establishes minimum academic eligibility requirements for participation by certain students in interscholastic athletics and other extracurricular activities
Provides relative to eligibility of certain home study students to participate in interscholastic athletics at secondary schools that are members of the LHSAA (EN SEE FISC NOTE LF EX See Note)
Requests the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to study the advantages and disadvantages of requiring certain schools to provide single-gender classes for students
Directs the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Department of Health and Hospitals to report on the effectiveness of abstinence-emphasis sex education
Requests that the State Bd. of Elementary and Secondary Education, in consultation with the Bd. of Regents and public school governing authorities, study certain issues relative to educator preparation programs
Requests that the State Bd. of Elementary and Secondary Education, in consultation with the Bd. of Regents, study the feasibility and costs of using state funds to pay for students in approved home study programs to participate in certain dual enrollment programs
Directs BESE and DOE to establish policies and procedures to evaluate bus driver training curricula developed by private providers and certify qualified private providers to deliver required school bus driver training.
