STUDENTS: Requires proof of annual physical examination and a physician's authorization
as a condition of a child's participation in physical activity
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 17:17.6, relative to physical activity for students; to require students to2
provide documentation of an annual physical examination and authorization from a3
physician as a condition of participation in physical activity; and to provide for4
related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  RS 17:17.6 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7
ยง17.6.  Physical activity; required physical examination8
A. The legislature finds that preventive care in the form of an annual9
physical examination is an important part of a child's health, growth, and10
development.11
B. At the beginning of each school year, as a condition of participation in12
physical activity required by R.S. 17:17.1 and policy of the State Board of13
Elementary and Secondary Education, a student must submit written documentation14
of an examination by a physician which authorizes the student to participate in such15
physical activity.  The student's school must receive this documentation not later than16
September second annually.17
C. Failure to meet the requirements of Subsection B of this Section shall18

excluded shall be allowed to participate upon the school's receipt of such1
documentation. 2

doctor's clearance in order to participate in physical activity.
Proposed law requires, as a condition of participation in physical activity, students to submit
annual documentation of an exam by a physician which authorizes the student to participate
in physical activity and provides that student's school must receive this documentation not
later than September 2nd annually.
