GERMAIN, STIAES, TALBOT, TEMPLET, THIBAUT, TUCKER, WADDELL, WILLIAMS, WILLMOTT, AND WOOTON AND SENATORS ADLEY, ERDEY, MCPHERSON, MOUNT, SHAW, AND THOMPSON AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 47:490.22, relative to military license plates; to provide for the establishment2 of a military support license plate for military veterans; to provide for the design and3 issuance of the license plate; to provide relative to fees for the license plate; to4 authorize the promulgation of rules and regulations; and to provide for related5 matters. 6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7 Section 1. R.S. 47:490.22 is hereby enacted to read as follows:8 ยง490.22. Military support license plates; Support Our Veterans9 A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall10 establish a military support license plate to be known as the "Support Our Veterans"11 license plate. The license plates shall be restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup12 trucks, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, and vans. The license plate shall be a13 color and design selected by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The secretary of14 the department shall be prohibited from changing the design and color of the license15 plates within a five-year period after the date of acceptance of a specific color and16 design.17 ENROLLEDHB NO. 1204 Page 2 of 2 CODING: Words in struck through type are deletions from existing law; words underscored are additions. B. The license plates shall be issued, upon application, to any citizen of1 Louisiana in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate.2 C. A one-time royalty fee of twenty-five dollars for use of the prestige plate3 shall be collected from the applicant and forwarded to the Louisiana Military Family4 Assistance Fund for each license plate issued as provided for in this Section. The5 department shall also collect the standard motor vehicle registration license fee6 provided for in R.S. 47:463 and a handling fee of three dollars and fifty cents to7 offset a portion of the department's administrative costs.8 D. The money received from the royalty fees by the Louisiana Military9 Family Assistance Fund shall be used solely in accordance with the provisions of10 R.S. 46:121 et seq.11 E. The secretary shall adopt rules and regulations to implement the12 provisions of this Section, including but not limited to rules governing the transfer13 of the license plates from one vehicle to another and the disposition of such license14 plates.15 SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATI VES PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF LOUISIANA APPROVED:
