Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE BILL NO. 1355 BY REPRESENTATIVE ARNOLD PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS: Provides for changes to the Private Investigators Law AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 37:3503(11) and 3520(A)(7), relative to private investigators; to provide for2 a definition of "speed van"; to require an operator of a speed van to possess a private3 investigator license; and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 37:3503(11) and 3520(A)(7) are hereby enacted to read as follows:6 §3503. Definitions7 As used in this Chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings ascribed8 to them unless the context clearly requires otherwise:9 * * *10 (11) "Speed van" means a motor vehicle operated on public roadways or11 highway shoulders installed with radar speed detection equipment and designed to12 record images that depict the license plate or other identifying feature of a motor13 vehicle that is not operated in compliance with instruction of a traffic control signal14 or a posted traffic sign. "Speed van" shall not include authorized vehicles operated15 by law enforcement officers in the course and scope of their official duties.16 * * *17 §3520. Illegal acts 18 A. Present law provides for it to be unlawful for any person to knowingly commit certain acts relating to private investigators. Proposed law retains present law but also includes for it to be unlawful for a person to operate a speed van without a valid private investigator license. (Adds R.S. 37:3503(11) and 3520(A)(7))
