CORRECTIONS: Requires DPS&C to adopt rules for uniform canteen provisions in
correctional facilities
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 15:827.2, relative to the Department of Public Safety and Corrections; to2
require the department to establish a uniform product and price list for all goods sold3
at correctional facilities; to provide for the establishment of prices; and to provide4
for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 15:827.2 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7
ยง827.2. Uniform canteen prices and provisions8
A. The Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall adopt rules and9
regulations to provide for a uniform product and price listing of all items which may10
be sold to inmates assigned to the custody of the Department of Public Safety and11
Corrections.12
B. The uniform product listing shall contain all foodstuffs, non-prescription13
medications, toiletries, and other sundries offered for sale and a listing of all prices14
for items which shall not exceed the retail market value of the products offered for15
sale.16
C. The products and prices shall be uniform throughout all correctional17
facilities in the state of Louisiana and all facilities which house inmates in the18
custody of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections.19 HLS 10RS-2770 ORIGINAL

D. The prices shall not exceed the retail market value of the products offered1
for sale and shall only be increased in conjunction with increases in the Consumer2
Pricing Index.3

Proposed law requires DPS&C to adopt rules and regulations to provide for a uniform
product and price listing of all items which may be sold to inmates assigned to the custody
of DPS&C.
Proposed law provides that the list shall include all items offered for sale and their prices and
shall prohibit the selling of items at prices which exceed the retail market value.
