AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 17:158(A)(3), to authorize the Bossier Parish School Board and2
the Caddo Parish School Board to transport to school any student who resides one3
mile or less from the school; to provide conditions and limitations; to provide an4
effective date; and to provide for related matters.5
Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published6
as provided by Article III, Section 13 of the Constitution of7
Louisiana.8
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:9
Section 1.  R.S. 17:158(A)(3) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:10
ยง158. School buses for transportation of students; employment of bus operators;11
alternative means of transportation; improvement of school bus turnarounds12

(3) The Beauregard Parish School Board, the Bossier Parish School Board,15
the Caddo Parish School Board, the Cameron Parish School Board, the East16
Feliciana Parish School Board, the Grant Parish School Board, the Iberville Parish17
School Board, the Morehouse Parish School Board, the Natchitoches Parish School18
Board, the Pointe Coupee Parish School Board, the Rapides Parish School Board, the19
Red River Parish School Board, the Sabine Parish School Board, the Vernon Parish20
School Board, the West Baton Rouge Parish School Board, the West Carroll Parish21
School Board, the West Feliciana Parish School Board, and the Winn Parish School22
Board may provide transportation for any student attending a school of suitable grade23

jurisdictional boundaries of the parish or school board who resides one mile or less1
from the school when the school board determines that conditions exist to warrant2
such transportation. Transportation of students residing one mile or less from their3
school shall be at no cost to the state.4

Section 2. This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2010; if vetoed by the governor6
and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become effective on July 1,7
2010, or on the day following such approval by the legislature, whichever is later.8
