COURTS: Provides procedures for the allotment of cases in the Orleans Parish Criminal
District Court
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 13:1343(A), relative to the Criminal District Court for the Parish2
of Orleans; to provide for the random allotment of cases among the judges of the3
court; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 13:1343(A) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 6
ยง1343. Allotment of cases among judges; holding of preliminary examination not7
ground for recusation8
A. All cases pending in the criminal district court shall be allotted equally9
among Sections A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, and L of the court, based on the day10
of the week the crime occurred.  Except on Sundays, legal holidays, and legal half-11
holidays, the allotment of cases shall be made public by classes daily at noon by the12
clerk or a deputy clerk selected by him, in the presence of the district attorney.  The13
fact the accused was committed for trial at a preliminary examination shall not be14
grounds for the recusation of the trial judge who held the preliminary examination.15

Abstract: Provides that the random allotment of cases for the Criminal District Court for
the Parish of Orleans shall be based on the day of the week the crime occurred.
Present law requires that all cases pending in the Criminal District Court for the Parish of
Orleans be allotted equally among the sections of the court. 
Proposed law requires that all cases pending in the criminal district court shall be allotted
equally among the sections of the court, based on the day of the week the crime occurred.
