BUILDING CODES: Exempts church camps from enforcement of building code standards
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 40:1730.30(B) and to enact R.S. 40:1730.30(A)(3), relative to2
church camps; to provide for a definition of church camp; to exempt church camps3
from enforcement of the state uniform construction code; and to provide for related4
matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 40:1730.30(B) is hereby amended and reenacted and R.S.7
40:1730.30(A)(3) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 8
ยง1730.30.  Regulation of construction or improvement of farm, recreational, and9
residential accessory structures; authority to issue building permits10

(3) For the purposes of this Section, "church camp" shall include but not be13
limited to a structure built on private campgrounds for the purpose of being a14
religious retreat and not a permanent residence.15

B. The governing authority of a parish or municipality shall not enforce that17
portion of the state uniform construction code which regulates the construction or18
improvement of a farm structure or private outdoor recreational structure, other than19

church camp, or residential accessory structure. However ;however, a municipality1
with a population in excess of forty-five thousand according the latest federal2
decennial census may enforce that portion of the state uniform construction code3
which regulates the construction or improvement of a residential accessory structure.4

Abstract: Provides that a private outdoor recreational structure include a structure built on
private campgrounds for the purpose of being a religious retreat and not a permanent
residence.
Proposed law provides that a "church camp" shall include but not be limited to a structure
built on private campgrounds for the purpose of being a religious retreat and not a permanent
residence.
Present law prohibits the governing authority of a parish or municipality from enforcing that
portion of the state uniform construction code which regulates the construction or
improvement of a private outdoor recreational structure.
Proposed law retains present law but also exempts church camps.
