MTR VEHICLE/VIOLATIONS: Provides relative to unauthorized acts of motor vehicle
dealers
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 32:1261(1)(x), relative to motor vehicles; to prohibit a manufacturer and other2
related motor vehicle agencies from requiring any retail motor vehicle dealer or3
perspective retail motor vehicle dealer to sell any insurance coverage, service, or4
product, which is provided by the manufacturer or other related motor vehicle5
agency in order to secure preferential pricing for the dealership or its customers in6
regard to any other product which is provided by a manufacturer or other related7
motor vehicle agency; and to provide for related matters.8
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:9
Section 1. R.S. 32:1261(1)(x) is enacted to read as follows: 10
ยง1261. Unauthorized acts11
It shall be a violation of this Chapter:12
(1) For a manufacturer, a distributor, a wholesaler, distributor branch, factory13
branch, converter or officer, agent, or other representative thereof:14

(x) To require any retail motor vehicle dealer or perspective retail motor16
vehicle dealer to sell any insurance coverage, service, or product, which is provided,17
administered, or sold by a manufacturer, a distributor, a wholesaler, distributor18
branch, factory branch, converter or officer, agent, related financial institution, or19

customers in regard to any other product which is provided, administered, or sold by1
a manufacturer, a distributor, a wholesaler, distributor branch, factory branch,2
