CONTRACTORS/CONSTRUCTI ON:  Provides with respect to licensure for solar energy
equipment installations
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 37:2156.2(E), relative to solar energy equipment installations; to require any2
contractor who holds a specialty classification in solar energy equipment to also hold3
a license as a residential building contractor or home improvement contractor; to4
require any contractor who holds a specialty classification in solar energy equipment5
and who applies for a license as a residential building contractor or home6
improvement contractor to comply with the workers' compensation requirement only7
with certain classifications of workers' compensation pursuant to certain National8
Council on Compensation Insurance, Inc. (NCCI) class codes; and to provide for9
related matters.10
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:11
Section 1.  R.S. 37:2156.2(E) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 12
ยง2156.2. Major categories; subclassifications; specialty classifications; requirements13
for contractors holding major classification to perform mechanical, electric,14
or plumbing work; requirements for contractors holding a speciality15
classification in solar energy equipment16

E. Any contractor who holds a specialty classification in solar energy18
equipment shall also hold a license as a residential building contractor, pursuant to19
R.S. 37:2165 et seq., or a home improvement contractor, pursuant to R.S. 37:2175.120 HLS 10RS-1522	ORIGINAL

et seq. Any contractor who holds a specialty classification in solar energy equipment1
and who applies for a license as a residential building contractor or home2
improvement contractor shall be in compliance with the workers' compensation3
requirement only if he holds the workers' compensation roofing designation as4
required by the National Council on Compensation Insurance, Inc. (NCCI) class5
code 5551, workers' compensation electrical designation as required by the NCCI6
class code 5190 or equivalent, and workers' compensation plumbing designation as7
required by the NCCI class code 5183 or equivalent.8

contractor.
