BOATS/SHIPS/VESSELS:  Provides for registration of antique boats
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 34:851.20(A)(5), relative to antique vessels; to provide for certificate numbers2
and decals for antique vessels; and to provide for related matters.3
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:4
Section 1.  R.S. 34:851.20(A)(5) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 5

(5) The owner of a boat that is thirty years old or older, used only for9
recreational purposes, and powered by the vessel's original-type power plant may file10
an application for a number for the vessel. Upon receipt of such application, the11
department shall issue to the applicant a certificate number and a decal.  The decal12
shall identify the boat as an antique boat. The owner of an antique boat shall comply13
with the provisions of this Subsection, including fees and the display of numbers and14
decals.15

Abstract: Allows boats 30 years or older, powered by the original type power plant, and
used for recreational purposes to be registered as an antique boat.
Present law provides that each owner of a motorboat or sailboat required to be numbered by
present law shall submit an application to the Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries accompanied
by a designated fee. 
Proposed law authorizes an owner of a boat 30 years or older, powered by the original type
power plant, and used for recreational purposes may apply for such application for an
antique boat.
Proposed law requires the department to issue a certificate number and a special decal that
identifies the vessel as an antique boat.
