Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE BILL NO. 937 BY REPRESENTATIVE FANNIN STUDENT/TUITION: Relative to tuition and mandatory fee amounts charged at public colleges and universities, provides for a credit for certain amounts paid by a student to the Board of Parole for his parole supervision AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 17:3351(E), relative to tuition and mandatory fee amounts at public colleges2 and universities; to provide relative to the powers and duties of public postsecondary3 education management boards; to require the adoption and implementation of certain4 policies and procedures by such boards relative to the payment of tuition and5 mandatory fee amounts by certain students; to provide timelines and guidelines for6 such policies and procedures; to provide effectiveness; to provide limitations; to7 provide an effective date; and to provide for related matters.8 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:9 Section 1. R.S. 17:3351(E) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 10 ยง3351. General powers, duties, and functions of college and university boards11 * * *12 E. In addition to any other powers and duties authorized by this Section, each13 board, by not later than October 1, 2010, shall adopt and implement policies and14 procedures requiring, beginning with the next enrollment period, that each institution15 under the board's supervision and management apply a credit against the tuition and16 mandatory attendance fees charged a student enrolled at the institution for amounts17 paid by the student or on behalf of the student to the state Board of Parole to defray18 the cost of his parole supervision as provided by R.S. 15:574.4(H)(4)(o). This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not4 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature5 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. Proposed law provides that each public postsecondary education management board, by not later than Oct. 1, 2010, shall adopt and implement policies and procedures requiring, beginning with the next enrollment period, that each institution under the board's supervision and management apply a credit against the tuition and mandatory attendance fees charged a student enrolled at the institution for amounts paid by the student or on the student's behalf to the Board of Parole to defray the cost of his parole supervision as provided by R.S. 15:574.4(H)(4)(o).
