HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 102

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Carolyn Susan Taylor "Sue"
Haley of Ruston.
WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Carolyn Susan Taylor "Sue" Haley of
Ruston on Friday, March 26, 2010, at the age of sixty-nine; and 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Haley was born on April 20, 1940, in Macon, Georgia, to James
Freeman Taylor, Sr., and Sarah Finney Taylor; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Haley received her nursing degree from the University of
Alabama, and she later earned a master's degree in professional counseling from Louisiana
Tech University; and
WHEREAS, throughout her life, Mrs. Haley demonstrated a special devotion to God,
and she attended numerous classes at the Shreveport extension of the New Orleans Baptist
Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Haley met the love of her life, Dr. Benjamin P. Haley, while she
was an affiliated student in pediatrics at Charity Hospital in New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Haley married Benjamin on June 16, 1962, and the couple became
the proud parents and grandparents to three children and three grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, after settling in Ruston with her husband, Mrs. Haley helped establish
the nursing program at Louisiana Tech University, where she taught for five years; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Haley later opened a counseling practice where she specialized in
helping families and children; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Haley was devout in her faith, and she taught the Joy Sunday
School class at First Baptist Church of Ruston; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Haley is survived by her beloved husband of forty-seven years, Dr.
Benjamin P. Haley; son, Benjamin P. Haley, Jr., and his wife, Ellen; daughters, Susan ENROLLEDHCR NO. 102

Elizabeth Rogers, and her husband, Doug, and Nancy Katherine Jordan and her husband,
Skylar; grandchildren, Patrick Benjamin Haley, Rebecca Elizabeth Haley, and Jack Andrew
Jordan; her ninety-three-year-old father, James Freeman Taylor, Sr.; sister, Sarah Taylor
Brewer; brothers, James Freeman Taylor, Jr., and his wife, Judy, and William Russell Taylor
and his wife, Shirley; brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Edward Haley and his wife, Brenda; sister-
in-law, Dr. Elizabeth Haley Jones and her husband, Glenn; and an array of extended family
members and friends; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Haley was preceded in death by her mother, Sarah Finney Taylor;
and
WHEREAS, with the death of Mrs. Haley, Louisiana has lost one of her finest
citizens; and 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Haley, who was admired by all whose lives she touched, leaves
behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly missed; and
WHEREAS, although the death of Mrs. Haley has left a tremendous void in her
community, her memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and
loved her.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Carolyn Susan Taylor "Sue"
Haley of Ruston, does hereby recognize and record for posterity her outstanding
accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation
for the pride and honor that this wonderful woman will forever bring to her family, friends,
church, community, and state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the family of Carolyn Susan Taylor "Sue" Haley.
