HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 128
BY REPRESENTATIVE LEGER
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To urge and request the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission to conduct a study to
determine the best way to encourage compliance with seat belt requirements.
WHEREAS, R.S. 32.295.1 provides that any person who violates this provision of
law shall be subject to penalties; and
WHEREAS, safety belts are the single most effective way to reduce fatal injury from
motor vehicle crashes and have saved hundreds of thousands of lives over the past three
decades; and
WHEREAS, while seatbelt laws increase seatbelt usage, their effectiveness varies
by type of enforcement.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
urge and request the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission to conduct a study to determine
the best way to encourage compliance with seat belt requirements.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Louisiana Highway Safety Comission.
