HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 139
BY REPRESENTATIVES HUTTER, BARROW, CHAMPAGNE, DOERGE, HILL,
ROSALIND JONES, KATZ, LANDRY, NORTON, JANE SMITH, PATRICIA
SMITH, ST. GERMAIN, STIAES, AND THIERRY AND SENATORS BROOME,
CHEEK, DORSEY, DUPLESSIS, JACKSON, MOUNT, PETERSON, AND
QUINN
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend Whitney Dawn Breaux upon her receipt of a 2010 Women of Excellence
Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Whitney Dawn Breaux upon her receipt
of a 2010 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus
Foundation and to recognize her vital contributions to the citizens of Louisiana as an active
and dedicated community servant; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge and a product of the East Baton
Rouge Parish School System, Ms. Breaux attended Baton Rouge Center for the Visual and
Performing Arts, Broadmoor Middle Magnet School, and Baton Rouge Magnet High School;
and
WHEREAS, in 2004, Ms. Breaux was recognized for her community service work
with HIV/AIDS and also crowned Miss Teen Louisiana 2004; she was also a three-time
Outstanding Lawyer award winner in the Baton Rouge Bar Association High School Mock
Trial Competition; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Breaux became the youngest member of the Student Senate at LSU
at the age of seventeen, and she also chaired the Students Rights and Welfare Committee and
joined Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority; for her commitment to community service and
leadership, she won the Outstanding Greek Freshman Award; and
WHEREAS, during her senior year, Ms. Breaux helped to launch the "S.O.S.-Save
Our Schools Campaign" to inform, engage, and initiate the community in the fight against
cuts to the higher education budget; she received many accolades while at LSU, was enrolled
in the Leadership LSU Class of 2009, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Mass ENROLLEDHCR NO. 139

Communication with a concentration in political communication and a minor in business
administration; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Breaux is the Communications Specialist for the Baton Rouge Area
Convention and Visitors Bureau, where she is in charge of social media presence,
maintaining a positive relationship with regional media outlets, and hosting travel writers;
her colleagues nominated her to the board of directors for the Public Relations Association
of Louisiana, and she also serves on the Southern Public Relations Federation Student
Outreach Committee and as a member of Forum 35, Women in Media, and the Progress Is…
campaign; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Breaux is pursuing a master in business administration degree at
the E.J. Ourso College of Business Flores MBA Program at LSU and works as assistant to
the chairman of the Miss Louisiana's Outstanding Teen program; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the
Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence
across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and
WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics
of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are
committed to community service to better society as a whole; and
WHEREAS, this year, there were seven categories for the Women of Excellence
Awards: Business, Culinary Arts, Education, Law and Justice, Volunteerism and Civic
Involvement, Young High School Woman of Excellence, and Young Woman of Excellence;
and
WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2010 Women of Excellence Awards are being
recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of
Excellence Awards Gala on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, in Baton Rouge; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Breaux received a 2010 Women of Excellence Award in the
category of Young Woman of Excellence; and
WHEREAS, with her receipt of this award, Ms. Breaux is also a Louisiana
Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship recipient; and
WHEREAS, Whitney Dawn Breaux merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of
commendation for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments.  ENROLLEDHCR NO. 139

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Whitney Dawn Breaux upon her receipt of a 2010 Women of Excellence Award
from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation, does hereby recognize and
record for posterity her singular contributions to the citizens of Louisiana as an active and
dedicated community servant, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the
tremendous honor and pride that she brings to her family, friends, and community, Louisiana
State University, the city of Baton Rouge, and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Ms. Whitney Dawn Breaux.
