HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 153
BY REPRESENTATIVE DOVE
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To recognize Tuesday, May 11, 2010, as Coastal Day at the Louisiana Legislature.
WHEREAS, Louisiana's coast - its communities, businesses, and natural resources -
are of the utmost importance to the cultural welfare and economy of the state; and
WHEREAS, the health and sustainability of our coastal area is threatened by storm
surge, saltwater intrusion, subsidence, sea level rise, and other natural and man-made
influences; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's coast can be sustained through the establishment of an
integrated system of protection and restoration; and
WHEREAS, over the past several years, the state has enjoyed great success in
reducing land loss rates and improving hurricane protection along the coast through the
coordinated efforts of integrated coastal protection; and 
WHEREAS, the establishment and expansion of this system of integrated coastal
protection in the coming years will require continued robust funding and efficient program
administration from federal, state, and local governments; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to set aside a special day to recognize the value of
Louisiana's coast, highlight the challenges it faces, and support the work needed to sustain
the coast.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
recognize Tuesday, May 11, 2010, as Coastal Day at the Louisiana Legislature.
