ENROLLED Page 1 of 4 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 16 BY REPRESENTATIVES HAZEL AND ROY A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Robert Beall "Buddy" Tudor, Jr., of Pineville. WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Robert Beall "Buddy" Tudor, Jr., of Pineville on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the age of seventy-four; and WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Pineville, Mr. Tudor was a contractor and real estate developer who grew his family's business, Tudor Construction Company, which later became Tudor Enterprises, into multi-million dollar regional corporations; and WHEREAS, born on May 18, 1935, to Lorraine Price and Robert B. Tudor, Sr., Mr. Tudor graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria, where he played basketball and tennis, finishing as state runner-up in the men's tennis singles in his junior and senior years; and WHEREAS, as an engineering student at Louisiana State University, Mr. Tudor lettered in varsity tennis for four years and was captain of the tennis team in 1956 and 1957; and WHEREAS, at Louisiana State University, Mr. Tudor received the Outstanding Engineering Graduate Award and was a member of Sigma Tau Alpha National Civil Engineering Fraternity, Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership and Scholastic Fraternity, and Sigma Chi National Social Fraternity; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was also a member of the Reserve Officer Training Corp at Louisiana State University, and his service was recognized with the Distinguished Military Graduate Award and a commission in the United States Army; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 16 Page 2 of 4 WHEREAS, following graduation, Mr. Tudor served with great pride and valor as a second lieutenant in anti-aircraft artillery in the United States Army on active duty at Fort Bliss in Texas and Fort Chaffee in Arkansas; and WHEREAS, after his service in the United States Army, Mr. Tudor returned to Alexandria in 1958 to join his father as the third generation at Tudor Construction Company, and he was named managing partner in 1961; and WHEREAS, under Mr. Tudor's dynamic leadership, Tudor Construction Company diversified both geographically and in the types of construction work offered and quickly expanded to become one of the few Louisiana construction companies to work statewide, completing numerous significant projects throughout the state and the South; and WHEREAS, over the years, Tudor Construction Company established offices in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and Hammond, as well as in Denver, Colorado, and Washington, D.C., and this construction legacy continues as Tudor, Inc., which is owned and operated by Mr. Tudor's son, John Tudor; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor further expanded the Tudor business interests by creating the development and property management company, Tudor Enterprises; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor's professional legacy is written in the skyline of Central Louisiana, as numerous Central Louisiana buildings stand as a tribute to his work; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor's success in his professional life was complemented by his generous contributions to his community and his commitment to his family; and WHEREAS, throughout his life, Mr. Tudor was highly active in professional, civic, athletic, and religious circles and was well known across the state of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was a founding member of the Central Cities Development Corporation, which focused on the redevelopment of downtown Alexandria, and he was the first chairman of the Rapides Area Planning Commission, serving from 1970 to 1974; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was a driving force in the creation of the Cenla Advantage Partnership, and he served as a board member since its founding; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor also served with great distinction as president of the Alexandria Rotary Club from 1969 to 1970, and on the boards of numerous civic organizations, including the Alexandria-Pineville Chamber of Commerce, the Attakapas Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Central Cities Development Board, the City of ENROLLEDHCR NO. 16 Page 3 of 4 Alexandria Downtown Development Committee, the Council for a Better Louisiana, the Council of Music and Performing Arts, the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, the Louisiana College Board of Development, the Louisiana Cultural Alliance, the LSU Foundation, the Pineville City Planning Committee, and the YMCA; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was affiliated with various professional and trade organizations, including the Central Louisiana Chapter of the Associated General Contractors, the Louisiana Associated General Contractors State Council, the Louisiana Construction Industry Legislative Council Advisory Board, and the Urban Land Institute; and WHEREAS, in recognition of his success and dedication to excellence, Mr. Tudor received numerous awards and honors throughout his life; and WHEREAS, in 1970, Mr. Tudor was named Outstanding Young Man of the Year for Central Louisiana and one of three Outstanding Young Men of the Year for the state of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor also received the Louisiana Preservation Alliance Award for his work on the Hotel Bentley and the Diamond Grill and the National Trust of Historic Preservation Honor Award for his preservation of The Hotel Bentley in 1986; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was awarded the Trustee's Distinguished Service Award by Louisiana College in 2007; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Pineville, where he served faithfully on the Board of Deacons and taught Sunday School; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was a loving and devoted father and stepfather who encouraged, challenged, and supported his children's pursuits and dreams; and WHEREAS, in his leisure time, Mr. Tudor enjoyed listening to and collecting music, and he was also a great dancer; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy Graham Tudor; five children, Anne Elizabeth Tudor, Robert B. Tudor III and his wife, Phoebe, John M. Tudor and his wife, Kheli, William A. Tudor and his wife, Monique, and Geoffrey T. Tudor; three step-children, Michelle Jennings and her husband, Nathan, Justin Hathorn and his wife, Ali, and Holly Hathorn and her fiancé, Brandon; nineteen grandchildren; one great- ENROLLEDHCR NO. 16 Page 4 of 4 granddaughter; his sister, Sue Tudor Miller; his brother, Michael S. Tudor and his wife, Susan; and an array of extended family members and friends; and WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was preceded in death by his parents, Robert B. Tudor, Sr., and Lorraine Price Tudor; and WHEREAS, with the death of Robert Beall "Buddy" Tudor, Jr., Louisiana has lost one of her finest citizens; and WHEREAS, although the death of Robert Beall "Buddy" Tudor, Jr., has left a tremendous void in his community, his memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved him. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Robert Beall "Buddy" Tudor, Jr., of Pineville, does hereby recognize and record for posterity his outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby extend enduring gratitude for the tremendous honor and pride that this wonderful man will forever bring to his family, friends, and community, the town of Pineville, the state of Louisiana, and the United States of America.
