HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 167
BY REPRESENTATIVE DIXON
HOSPITALS: Expresses support for the Huey P. Long Medical Center, the Central La.
State Hospital, the Red River Treatment Center, and the Pinecrest Supports and
Services Center and urges and requests that these facilities remain open, public, and
viable
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To express support for the retention of the Huey P. Long Medical Center in Pineville, the2
Central Louisiana State Hospital, the Red River Treatment Center, and the Pinecrest3
Supports and Services Center and to urge and request the governor, the Department4
of Health and Hospitals, and the Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors to5
take all actions necessary to keep the facilities open, public, and viable in Louisiana.6
WHEREAS, the Huey P. Long Medical Center in Pineville, the Central Louisiana7
State Hospital, the Red River Treatment Center, and the Pinecrest Supports and Services8
Center each provides important services vital to the health of many residents living in central9
Louisiana; and10
WHEREAS, the Huey P. Long Medical Center in Pineville has been operating in the11
same location since 1939 and has continuously provided quality medical care to the indigent12
and uninsured populations of central Louisiana; and13
WHEREAS, the Huey P. Long Medical Center has also served as an excellent14
training facility for many medical residents, preparing them to become physicians who15
eventually practice in the underserved rural parishes of central Louisiana; and16
WHEREAS, the Central Louisiana State Hospital provides comprehensive services17
for adults with serious mental illness and children and youth with serious emotional or18
behavioral disturbances, including those patients whose illness is severe enough to require19

WHEREAS, the Red River Treatment Center provides vital inpatient services for1
those adults who require treatment for chemical dependency; and2
WHEREAS, the Pinecrest Supports and Services Center provides necessary support3
and services to those persons with developmental disabilities living in central Louisiana.4
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby5
express support for the retention of the Huey P. Long Medical Center in Pineville, the6
Central Louisiana State Hospital, the Red River Treatment Center, and the Pinecrest7
Supports and Services Center.8
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge9
and request the governor, the Department of Health and Hospitals, and the Louisiana State10
University Board of Supervisors to take all actions necessary to keep these facilities open,11
public, and viable in Louisiana.12
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the13
governor, the secretary of the Department of Health and Hospitals, and the chairman of the14
Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors.15
