HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 18
BY REPRESENTATIVE LEBAS
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the National Rifle Association for developing the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety
Education Program in schools and to encourage civil and community service
organizations to help provide funding for the program.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the National Rifle Association for
developing the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Education Program to teach children about the
importance of gun safety; and 
WHEREAS, teaching children to act safely around firearms is a critical step in the
effort to reduce the number of firearm-related accidents among children; and
WHEREAS, the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Education Program teaches the
fundamentals of firearm safety to children in an effective and enjoyable way, communicating
to them the lifesaving message offered by the program that instructs children to stay away
from firearms and report them to adults; and 
WHEREAS, the nationally recognized Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Education Program
has been used by more than ten thousand public and private schools and law enforcement
agencies and has reached more than twenty-one million children since its founding in 1988;
and
WHEREAS, Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Education Program received the 1994 Golden
Achievement Award from the National School Public Relations Association, the 1995
National Education Award from the American Legion, and the 1996 Award of Merit from
the National Safety Council's Award and Recognition Committee of the Youth Activities
Division; and 
WHEREAS, the National Rifle Association merits a special measure of
commendation for its commitment to the safety of the children of the United States through
the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Education Program. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 18

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the National Rifle Association for developing the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety
Education Program in schools and does hereby encourage civil and community service
organizations that are concerned about the safety and welfare of children to help provide
funding for the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Education Program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the president of the National Rifle Association.
