HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 186
BY REPRESENTATIVE FOIL AND SENATOR CLAITOR
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend Kleinpeter Farms Dairy for its contributions to Louisiana's economy, its
environmental stewardship, and its community service.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and celebrate the achievements of
Kleinpeter Farms Dairy, a true Louisiana institution; and
WHEREAS, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy has been a family-owned and independently
operated dairy since 1913, and the Kleinpeters, in their fourth generation of ownership, have
been farming and processing milk longer than anyone in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Jeff Kleinpeter, President and Chief Executive Officer, Kleinpeter
Farms Dairy, currently co-owns the company with his sister, Sue Anne Kleinpeter Cox,
Chief Financial Officer, and their brothers and sisters; and
WHEREAS, for nearly a century, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy has been a thriving part
of the state's economy, and within the past two and a half years, it has expanded its service
area from its base of Baton Rouge and New Orleans to statewide throughout Louisiana and
into southern Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy uses ingredients from nearby farmers in its
products, including milk from twenty Louisiana dairies, helping to keep small family farms
in business; and
WHEREAS, in January of 2008, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy opened Louisiana's only
ice cream plant; the ice cream now comes in nineteen very popular flavors and is made with
Ponchatoula strawberries, Ruston peaches, sweet potatoes from Bruce Foods, Community
Coffee, Bergeron pecans, and Louisiana sugar cane, as well as Gold Brick Eggs from Elmer
Candy Company of Ponchatoula and pralines from New Orleans candy maker Aunt Sally's

WHEREAS, in a period of economic recession, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy has played
a significant role in bolstering the state's economy through its successful product lines and
its utilization of resources from all throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, in addition to its economic contributions to Louisiana, the Kleinpeter
family has a tradition of caring for the environment that goes back four generations; and
WHEREAS, in 2007, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy partnered with the East Baton Rouge
City-Parish government to promote recycling, and this campaign continues to produce
positive results in increasing recycling efforts in the area; and
WHEREAS, in March of 2010, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy was honored by the
Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality with the Achievement Award in the
Medium Business category for a series of innovative pollution prevention programs; and
WHEREAS, on April 20, 2010, in a ceremony on Capitol Hill, Kleinpeter Farms
Dairy received the 2010 Seal of Sustainability, a national environmental award, from the
Sustainable Business Institute; this year, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy was one of only two
recipients of this very prestigious award, which is given to companies demonstrating
continuous commitment to sustainable business practices; and
WHEREAS, these pollution prevention programs were undertaken under the
initiative of the dairy's owners and not due to any requirement by any regulatory agency, and
the practices led to significant reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases and solid and
liquid wastes and resulted in substantial economic savings to the dairy; and
WHEREAS, in addition, the Kleinpeter Dairy Farm in St. Helena Parish is a zero-
effluent facility, and the farm received the Louisiana Wildlife Federation Conservation
Award in 2007; and
WHEREAS, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy, which has never used rBGH, recombinant
Bovine Growth Hormone, is the first dairy in Louisiana to become certified as American
Humane Certified by the American Humane Association for providing the best animal care
possible; and
WHEREAS, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy's impact on Louisiana and her communities
reaches beyond economic and environmental achievements, as it is one of the most
community service-oriented companies in the state's history; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 186

WHEREAS, a video called "Milk: From Moo to You", which was produced by
Kleinpeter Farms Dairy, is part of the economics curriculum in East Baton Rouge Parish
schools; Kleinpeter Farms Dairy played a significant role in relief efforts during and in the
aftermaths of the hurricanes of recent years; and Kleinpeter Farms Dairy provides assistance
to more than two hundred fifty charities in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy, an extraordinary family company, merits a
special measure of commendation for the tremendous pride and honor it brings to the state
of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Kleinpeter Farms Dairy for its singular contributions to the growth and
development of Louisiana's economy, for its steadfast commitment to environmental
stewardship, and for its unwavering community service, does hereby recognize and record
for posterity the unique place the company holds in the annals of Louisiana history, and does
hereby extend to the entire Kleinpeter Farms Dairy family best wishes for continued success
and happiness in their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the owners of Kleinpeter Farms Dairy.
