WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and recognize Forrest Dunn upon his retirement from the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum; and WHEREAS, Forrest Dunn has served with great distinction as the director of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum in Shreveport for more than eleven years; and WHEREAS, during his tenure as director of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, Mr. Dunn worked with the Friends of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum to bring nationally recognized exhibits to the museum and to promote and enhance the museum's collections, gardens, and grounds; and WHEREAS, under Mr. Dunn's outstanding term of leadership, the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum became the only public museum in Louisiana to establish an affiliation with the Smithsonian Institution; and WHEREAS, Mr. Dunn has been committed to a life of public service, serving with unwavering dedication as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1972 ENROLLEDHCR NO. 201 Page 2 of 2 until 1984, using every opportunity as a widely respected and admired legislator to serve his constituency in Caddo Parish and the citizens of the state of Louisiana in an honorable and dedicated manner, and serving diligently on the House committees on commerce, education, retirement, and ways and means; and WHEREAS, Mr. Dunn has also served with great effectiveness as a member of the Caddo Parish School Board, president of the Holiday in Dixie Festival, campaign chairman for the United Way, and president of the executive committee of the State Fair of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, among Mr. Dunn's well-deserved honors have been his selection for the Special Humanitarian Award of the Community Council in 1978 and as a Shreveport Times outstanding leader in the Shreveport-Bossier community in 2002; and WHEREAS, in addition to his service to the state of Louisiana, Mr. Dunn served his country with great pride and valor in the United States Navy; and WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of its communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon people like Forrest Dunn, an exceptional gentleman and an inspiration to all; and WHEREAS, Forrest Dunn merits a special measure of commendation for the tremendous honor that he brings to his family and friends, the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, the state of Louisiana, and the United States of America. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Forrest Dunn upon his retirement from the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, does hereby extend enduring appreciation to this great Louisianian for his long and highly productive term of public service, and does hereby recognize and record for posterity his extraordinary accomplishments and contributions to his community, state, and nation.
