HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 30
BY REPRESENTATIVE HARDY
STUDENTS: Requests school governing authorities to encourage students to first take
standardized college admissions tests in the ninth grade
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To urge and request school governing authorities to encourage students to first take2
standardized college admission tests in the ninth grade.3
WHEREAS, standardized college admissions tests such as the ACT and the SAT,4
while commonly taken during a student's junior or senior year of high school, may be taken5
earlier; and6
WHEREAS, taking such a test as early as ninth grade as a "practice run" will help7
students learn how to read questions carefully, manage their testing time wisely, and become8
familiar with the testing environment; and 9
WHEREAS, reviewing the results of the test at the ninth grade level will assist a10
student, his parents, and his teachers in recognizing his strengths and weaknesses and areas11
in which the student can strive for improvement; and12
WHEREAS, taking standardized college admissions tests in the early days of high13
school is an excellent way to begin preparing for subsequent test attempts when the student's14
scores will be officially submitted to potential postsecondary education institutions.15
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby16
urge and request school governing authorities to encourage students to first take standardized17
college admission tests in the ninth grade.18
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted19
to the Louisiana School Boards Association, which shall be responsible for disseminating20
a copy to each of its members.21 HLS 10RS-994	ORIGINAL
