HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 79

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the Peabody Magnet High School boys basketball team upon winning the 2010
Class 4A state championship.
WHEREAS, the Peabody Magnet High School boys basketball team completed a
sensational season, earning the title of 2010 Class 4A state champions after defeating Bossier
High School by a score of 61-58 to win the state championship game at the Lafayette
Cajundome on Saturday, March 13, 2010; and 
WHEREAS, the Peabody Magnet High School boys basketball team was undefeated
for the 2009-2010 season, finishing with a final record of 41-0; and
 WHEREAS, the championship win was the sixth state basketball championship for
the Warhorses and the culmination of another unforgettable season; and 
WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence
throughout the season and playoffs, and each of these great Warhorses deserves recognition
for his vital contribution to the winning effort; and 
WHEREAS, the Warhorses were led by senior Markel Brown, the team's captain,
who scored twenty-fi ve points and was named Most Valuable Player of the championship
game; and
WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved
without the guidance and skills of head coach Charles Smith as well as all of the other
individuals who have contributed to the success of the school's basketball program; and 
WHEREAS, in recognition of their extraordinary achievements, coach Charles Smith
and Markel Brown were named Class 4A Coach of the Year and Player of the Year,
respectively, by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association; and
WHEREAS, the team's outstanding 2009-2010 season upholds the glorious tradition
of the Warhorses, and all Peabody Magnet High School alumni and fans recognize the ENROLLEDHCR NO. 79

immense pride and distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and
state.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the Peabody Magnet High School boys basketball team upon winning the 2010
Class 4A state championship and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and
everyone involved with this fine basketball program as they celebrate their exceptional
season and prepare for continued success in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Charles Smith, head coach of the Peabody Magnet High School boys basketball team.
