HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 99
BY REPRESENTATIVE GUILLORY
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To urge and request all cable and satellite television providers serving the citizens of
Louisiana to provide access to all three Louisiana Public Broadcasting channels to
their customers.
WHEREAS, Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) has been providing quality
educational and informative programming to the people of Louisiana since 1975; and 
WHEREAS, Louisiana Public Broadcasting has produced thousands of hours of local
programming that celebrates the people, the history, the culture, and the achievements of
Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana Public Broadcasting, as the only media outlet able to reach
all of Louisiana, has demonstrated itself essential to the people of Louisiana in times of
natural disasters by providing emergency broadcasts; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana Public Broadcasting has grown from a single television
channel to three television channels, LPB, LPB2, and LPB3, each broadcasting twenty-four
hours a day, seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana Public Broadcasting is a high-definition channel offering
programs from the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) and those produced locally; and 
WHEREAS, Louisiana Public Broadcasting's online education website is accessed
more than one million seven hundred thousand times a year where more than two thousand
teachers are enrolled in professional development courses from LPB; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana Public Broadcasting's pre-school reading camps have shown
proven increases in understanding letter sounds, spelling, word recognition, and reading; and
WHEREAS, LPB2 provides educational children's programming in prime-time
evening hours and all day Saturday and Sunday, and is the only television station providing
regularly scheduled French-language programming; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 99

WHEREAS, LPB3 presents lifelong learning programs including those that celebrate
Louisiana's rich history and heritage; and 
WHEREAS, thousands of Louisiana's citizens receive their television service from
cable and satellite providers; and 
WHEREAS, cable and satellite providers are offered all three Louisiana Public
Broadcasting channels free of charge; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest for all residents of Louisiana to have access
to emergency information and educational, historical, and cultural programming. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
urge and request all cable and satellite television providers serving the citizens of Louisiana
to provide access to all three Louisiana Public Broadcasting channels to their customers.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to every cable and satellite provider doing business in the state of Louisiana.
