HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 1
BY REPRESENTATIVE TUCKER
A RESOLUTION
To commend Gregory L. Ernst upon his admirable service as a member of the Louisiana
House of Representatives and to express enduring gratitude for his outstanding
contributions to District 94 and the state of Louisiana.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Gregory L. Ernst, former state
representative from District No. 94, for his selfless contributions to the Louisiana House of
Representatives; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ernst has had a distinguished career of public service and has spent
much of his life serving his fellow citizens in an honorable and dedicated manner; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ernst was an intelligent and accomplished student, graduating
summa cum laude from Jesuit High School and cum laude from Harvard College with a
degree in Russian studies and completing his education with a degree from Tulane
University Law School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ernst has demonstrated his commitment to public service over the
years by working for many state and national public interest entities, such as the Louisiana
Department of Justice, the Louisiana Mental Health Advocacy Service, and the National
Law Center on Homelessness; and
WHEREAS, in 2009, Mr. Ernst was chosen to represent District 94 when
Representative Nick Lorusso was called to active duty in the United States Armed Forces;
Mr. Ernst thereby became the first individual to serve under the terms of Act No. 931 of the
2008 Regular Session of the Legislature, whereby a legislator ordered to active duty in the
armed forces for a period of one hundred eighty days or more submits a list of candidates
to be his temporary successor to the presiding officer of his house; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 1

WHEREAS, as a candidate, Mr. Ernst received a unanimous vote of approval by the
House Committee on House and Governmental Affairs and a warm endorsement and final
appointment  from Speaker of the House, Jim Tucker; and 
WHEREAS, during his tenure as a representative, Mr. Ernst served with quiet
certitude and unflagging diligence on the House Committee on Criminal Justice, the House
Committee on Civil Law, and the House Committee on Judiciary; he introduced legislation
expanding aspects of the Louisiana Road Home Program, augmenting its capacity to
facilitate regrowth and renewal in the state; he introduced changes to Military Department
programs to improve the welfare and morale of members of the armed forces; and he
championed public safety; and
WHEREAS, Gregory Ernst merits a special measure of commendation for his
upstanding and dedicated service to the citizens of District 94 and to the citizens of
Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Gregory L. Ernst on his outstanding
accomplishments as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives and a devoted
public servant and does hereby recognize that his unwavering commitment to the ideals of
democratic government and the generous and effective way in which he has dedicated his
intelligence and his energy to the service of his family, friends, community, and state will
not soon be forgotten.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature
of Louisiana hereby expresses its enduring gratitude to Mr. Ernst for his friendship, his
genuine good will, and his uncompromising dedication to making Louisiana a better place
to live. 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Gregory L. Ernst.
