HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 76
BY REPRESENTATIVE RICHMOND
A RESOLUTION
To commend Basileus Peggy C. Severe for being named Woman of the Year.
WHEREAS, Peggy C. Severe was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but she
eventually moved to New Orleans, Louisiana; and 
WHEREAS, she received her high school diploma from Walter L. Cohen Senior
High School; and
WHEREAS, she received an Associates Certificate from Xavier University in Child
Psychology; and 
WHEREAS, she attended Straight Business School and went on to attend  Katie's
Beauty and Barbering School, which is one of the oldest African-American beauty culture
schools; and
WHEREAS, she also went on to receive her Teacher Training Certificate and became
a teacher, administrative assistant, and later the supervisor at Katie's Beauty and Barbering
School; and
WHEREAS, she continued to work hard to be the best that she could be by earning
a B.A. and M.A.; and
WHEREAS, in August, 2001, she received her doctoral degree in cosmetology from
the National Beauty Cultural League; and
WHEREAS, she is a member of the N.B.C.L., Louisiana State Barbers Association
Inc., Louisiana State Beauticians Association Inc., Vice President of Katie's Cosmetician
Alumni, Theta Nu Sigma Sorority-Chi Chapter and Youth for Beauty Association; and
WHEREAS, she is the owner and operator of Peggy's Place Beauty Shoppe; and
WHEREAS, she has received many prestigious awards over the years because of her
public and private affiliations; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 76

WHEREAS, she is the widow of Mr. Jerome A. Severe and the mother of two
children.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Basileus Peggy C. Severe for being named
Woman of the Year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Basileus Peggy C. Severe.
