HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 78
BY REPRESENTATIVE PATRICIA SMITH
A RESOLUTION
To commend Nanette McCann of Baton Rouge Magnet High School for being named the
national Magnet Schools of America 2010 Principal of the Year.
WHEREAS, Nanette McCann has served with unwavering dedication as principal
of Baton Rouge Magnet High School (BRMHS) since 2002 and has been an educator for
twenty-six years; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McCann was recently named the national Magnet Schools of
America Principal of the Year at the 2010 Magnet Schools of America Conference in
Tampa, Florida; and
WHEREAS, as part of this very prestigious distinction, Mrs. McCann received
$2,500, of which $1,500 is designated for her personal use and $1,000 is designated for
Baton Rouge Magnet High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McCann was also named East Baton Rouge Parish Principal of the
Year for 2010 and was also named Louisiana's Region II Principal of the Year; and
WHEREAS, led with great effectiveness by Mrs. McCann, BRMHS provides an
award-winning college preparatory and visual and performing arts curriculum; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McCann, along with the faculty and staff of BRMHS, is
committed to providing a learning climate to help students develop the skills and attitudes
of successful citizens in a global environment; and 
WHEREAS, Nanette McCann merits a special measure of commendation for the
tremendous pride and honor that she brings to her family, friends, and community, the
faculty, staff, and students of Baton Rouge Magnet High School, the city of Baton Rouge,
and the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Nanette McCann of Baton Rouge Magnet ENROLLEDHR NO. 78

High School for being named the national Magnet Schools of America 2010 Principal of the
Year, does hereby recognize and record for posterity her outstanding accomplishments and
singular contributions, and does hereby extend best wishes for continued success and
happiness in all of her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Nanette McCann, principal of Baton Rouge Magnet High School.
