Searcy, Jr., of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office A RESOLUTION1 To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Corporal Clovis Wayne2 "J.R." Searcy, Jr., of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office.3 WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4 Louisiana House of Representatives learned of the death of Corporal Clovis Wayne "J.R."5 Searcy, Jr., of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the age6 of thirty-three; and7 WHEREAS, an eight-year veteran of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, Corporal8 Searcy was killed in the line of duty from a gunshot wound he received after responding to9 an aggravated assault complaint; and 10 WHEREAS, born on November 4, 1976, in West Monroe, Corporal Searcy graduated11 from West Ouachita High School in 1994 and entered the United States Air Force, where he12 served with valor and pride for four years as a military police officer; and13 WHEREAS, while in the United States Air Force, Corporal Searcy met the love of14 his life, Kerry, and he later became the devoted father of three children; and15 WHEREAS, continuing his commitment to serve and protect, Corporal Searcy joined16 the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, where he served with great distinction as a patrol17 deputy, a K-9 deputy, and most recently, as a training officer for the patrol division; and18 WHEREAS, Corporal Searcy was also a successful business owner of C&K Searcy19 Enterprises, a lawn care business; and20 HLS 10RS-1575 ORIGINAL HR NO. 8 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, Corporal Searcy was an active member of his community, and he was1 dedicated to Woodlawn Elementary School, where he helped direct traffic during school2 arrivals and dismissals; and3 WHEREAS, during his leisure time, Corporal Searcy enjoyed participating in his4 children's sporting events, racing four-wheelers, mud digging, boating, water sports, and5 watching football as an avid New Orleans Saints fan; and6 WHEREAS, as a final act of selflessness, Corporal Searcy gave the gift of life to7 others through organ donation; and8 WHEREAS, Corporal Searcy is survived by his loving wife of nine years, Kerry S.9 Searcy; son, Justin Searcy; daughter, Maegan Searcy; stepson, Nicholas Lambert; mother,10 Kay Guirlando and her husband, Rocky; father, Clovis Wayne Searcy, Sr., and his wife,11 Ginger; brothers, Cody Searcy and Casey Guirlando and his wife, Rainy; maternal12 grandparents, Thomas D. and Marjorie Cupit; grandmother, Rosemary Crowson; and an13 array of extended family members and friends; and14 WHEREAS, Corporal Searcy was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents,15 James M. Searcy, Sr., and Alice Marie Searcy and his cousin and best friend, Tony Searcy;16 and17 WHEREAS, the death of Corporal Searcy leaves an unspeakable emptiness in the18 hearts of his family members and friends, who may find comfort in the knowledge that he19 lived his life heroically and according to deeply held principles and that his legacy will20 continue to be an inspiration to others; and21 WHEREAS, Corporal Searcy will be mourned and sorely missed by those who had22 the honor of serving with him and who will always remember him as a selfless police officer23 and a cherished friend; and24 WHEREAS, the actions of Corporal Searcy upheld the highest traditions of the25 Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office and brought honor to himself, his family, his friends, and26 his state; and27 WHEREAS, Corporal Searcy performed his duties in an outstanding fashion, and it28 is only fitting to pay tribute to him for his extraordinary service and ultimate sacrifice.29 HLS 10RS-1575 ORIGINAL HR NO. 8 Page 3 of 3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the1 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express its most sincere and heartfelt condolences upon2 the death of Corporal Clovis Wayne "J.R." Searcy, Jr., does hereby recognize the3 tremendous honor and pride that he will forever bring to his family, friends, and community,4 his fellow police officers, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, the state of Louisiana, and5 the United States of America, and does hereby acknowledge with profound gratitude the6 heroic deeds of this fine son of Louisiana who gave his life in service of his fellow citizens.7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted8 to the family of Corporal Clovis Wayne "J.R."
