GERMAIN, STIAES, TALBOT, TEMPLET, THIBAUT, THIERRY, TUCKER, WADDELL, WHITE, WIL LIAMS, WILLMOTT, AND WOOTON A RESOLUTION To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Corporal Clovis Wayne "J.R." Searcy, Jr., of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office. WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the Louisiana House of Representatives learned of the death of Corporal Clovis Wayne "J.R." Searcy, Jr., of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the age of thirty-three; and WHEREAS, an eight-year veteran of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, Corporal Searcy was killed in the line of duty from a gunshot wound he received after responding to an aggravated assault complaint; and WHEREAS, born on November 4, 1976, in West Monroe, Corporal Searcy graduated from West Ouachita High School in 1994 and entered the United States Air Force, where he served with valor and pride for four years as a military police officer; and WHEREAS, while in the United States Air Force, Corporal Searcy met the love of his life, Kerry, and he later became the devoted father of three children; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 8 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, continuing his commitment to serve and protect, Corporal Searcy joined the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, where he served with great distinction as a patrol deputy, a K-9 deputy, and most recently, as a training officer for the patrol division; and WHEREAS, Corporal Searcy was also a successful business owner of C&K Searcy Enterprises, a lawn care business; and WHEREAS, Corporal Searcy was an active member of his community, and he was dedicated to Woodlawn Elementary School, where he helped direct traffic during school arrivals and dismissals; and WHEREAS, during his leisure time, Corporal Searcy enjoyed participating in his children's sporting events, racing four-wheelers, mud digging, boating, water sports, and watching football as an avid New Orleans Saints fan; and WHEREAS, as a final act of selflessness, Corporal Searcy gave the gift of life to others through organ donation; and WHEREAS, Corporal Searcy is survived by his loving wife of nine years, Kerry S. Searcy; son, Justin Searcy; daughter, Maegan Searcy; stepson, Nicholas Lambert; mother, Kay Guirlando and her husband, Rocky; father, Clovis Wayne Searcy, Sr., and his wife, Ginger; brothers, Cody Searcy and Casey Guirlando and his wife, Rainy; maternal grandparents, Thomas D. and Marjorie Cupit; grandmother, Rosemary Crowson; and an array of extended family members and friends; and WHEREAS, Corporal Searcy was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James M. Searcy, Sr., and Alice Marie Searcy and his cousin and best friend, Tony Searcy; and WHEREAS, the death of Corporal Searcy leaves an unspeakable emptiness in the hearts of his family members and friends, who may find comfort in the knowledge that he lived his life heroically and according to deeply held principles and that his legacy will continue to be an inspiration to others; and WHEREAS, Corporal Searcy will be mourned and sorely missed by those who had the honor of serving with him and who will always remember him as a selfless police officer and a cherished friend; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 8 Page 3 of 3 WHEREAS, the actions of Corporal Searcy upheld the highest traditions of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office and brought honor to himself, his family, his friends, and his state; and WHEREAS, Corporal Searcy performed his duties in an outstanding fashion, and it is only fitting to pay tribute to him for his extraordinary service and ultimate sacrifice. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express its most sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Corporal Clovis Wayne "J.R." Searcy, Jr., does hereby recognize the tremendous honor and pride that he will forever bring to his family, friends, and community, his fellow police officers, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, the state of Louisiana, and the United States of America, and does hereby acknowledge with profound gratitude the heroic deeds of this fine son of Louisiana who gave his life in service of his fellow citizens. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the family of Corporal Clovis Wayne "J.R." Searcy, Jr., and to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office.
