AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 16:6, relative to district attorneys; to provide relative to the2
office of the district attorney in the Sixteenth Judicial District; to provide restrictions3
upon the payment and reimbursement of certain expenses and costs; to provide terms4
and conditions; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 16:6 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7
ยง6. Reimbursement for expenses; payment by police juries8
A. The district attorneys of this state, the parish of Orleans excepted, shall be9
entitled to an expense allowance for salaries of stenographers, clerks and secretaries,10
and salaries or charges for special officers, investigators and other employees and an11
expense allowance for stationery forms, telephone, transportation, travel, postage,12
hotel and other expenses incurred in the discharge of their official duties.13
B. The police juries of the various parishes of the state of Louisiana are14
hereby authorized to pay from their general fund any of the items of expense, as15
provided for herein, incurred by the several district attorneys of this state when16
acting in their official capacities.17 SB NO. 326

C. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, the district1
attorney in the Sixteenth Judicial District shall not expend any funds under his2
control, or seek funding or reimbursement from any source, to pay expenses or3
costs for registration and attendance at continuing legal education programs by4
office personnel.5

DIGEST
Present law provides that the district attorneys of this state, the parish of Orleans excepted,
shall be entitled to an expense allowance for salaries of stenographers, clerks and secretaries,
and salaries or charges for special officers, investigators and other employees and an expense
allowance for stationery forms, telephone, transportation, travel, postage, hotel and other
expenses incurred in the discharge of their official duties.
Present law further provides that the police juries of the various parishes of the state are
authorized to pay from their general fund any of the items of expense, as provided for in the
present law, incurred by the several district attorneys of this state when acting in their
official capacities.
Proposed law retains present law and adds that notwithstanding any provision of law to the
contrary, the district attorney in the Sixteenth Judicial District shall not expend any funds
under his control, or seek funding or reimbursement from any source, to pay expenses or
costs for registration and attendance at continuing legal education programs by office
personnel.
Effective August 15, 2010.
