TRANSPORTATION/DEV DEPT. Provides for the development and maintenance of a
statewide digital geospatial database and for statewide topographic mapping responsibilities

AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 48:36, relative to the Department of Transportation and Development; to2
provide for topographic mapping responsibilities; to authorize the department to3
develop and maintain a statewide digital geospatial database; to provide for the4
adoption of rules; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 48:36 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7
ยง36.  Topographic mapping8
 The department may develop and maintain a statewide digital geospatial9
database. The department shall act as authority for geographic names, set10
standards for the mapping of topographic features, and plan and manage data11
collection for incorporation into a statewide database. Rules and regulations12
shall be promulgated by the department in accordance with the Administrative13
Procedure Act as are necessary for the planning and managing of the geospatial14
data.15
Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not16
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature17 SB NO. 411

by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If1
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become2
effective on the day following such approval.3

Proposed law authorizes DOTD to develop and maintain a statewide digital geospatial
database, with regard to its topographic mapping responsibilities. Requires DOTD to act as
authority for geographic names, set standards for the mapping of topographic features, and
plan and manage data collection for incorporation into a statewide database. Further requires
DOTD to adopt rules and regulations, in accordance with the APA, as are necessary for the
planning and managing of the geospatial data.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
