SENATE BILL NO. 763

SPECIAL DISTRICTS. Amends the appointment authority for certain parish arena district
boards.  (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To require certain parish arena district board appointments be made by the parish fair board2
president; and to provide for related matters.3
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:4
Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of Chapter 11 of Title 33 of the Louisiana5
Revised Statutes of 1950 or any other provision of law, for any parish arena district board6
created by law in a parish that has a population of not less than 45,000 nor more than 53,0007
persons based on the latest federal census and is governed by a police jury, any position on8
such parish arena board requiring an appointment by the mayor of the municipality which9
serves as the parish seat, such appointment shall be made by the parish fair board president.10
Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not11
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature12
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If13
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become14
effective on the day following such approval.15 SB NO. 763

DIGEST
Present law creates various parish arena and recreation districts. Provides that such districts
shall be governed by an appointed board and provides for such board's powers, duties and
authority.
Proposed law provides that notwithstanding any provisions of 	present law, for any parish
arena district board created by law in a parish that has a population of not less than 45,000
nor more than 53,000 and is governed by a police jury, any position on a parish arena board
requiring an appointment by the mayor of the municipality which serves as the parish seat
shall be made by the parish fair board president.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
