(gov sig) AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 48:972, relative to bridges; provides relative to free passage for2 publicly owned vehicles over toll bridges; and to provide for related matters.3 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:4 Section 1. R.S. 48:972 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 5 ยง972. Exemption from bridge tolls; certain public vehicles 6 Any publicly owned vehicles and any vehicle used in connection with or in7 furtherance of the mass transportation of the general public which is owned and8 operated by any person, firm, or corporation engaged in a publicly subsidized transit9 business or which is owned by a public body, shall have free and unhampered10 passage at all times over toll bridges which cross any river or stream in this state.11 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not12 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature13 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. DIGEST Chabert (SB 775) Present law provides free and unhampered passage at all times over toll bridges which cross any river or stream in this state to any publicly owned vehicles and any vehicle used in connection with or in furtherance of the mass transportation of the general public which is owned and operated by a publicly subsidized transit business or by a public body. Proposed law removes free passage for any publicly owned vehicle over toll bridges. Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action. (Amends R.S. 48:972)
